Banig Festival at Badian, Cebu

The festival’s name was taken from the Visayan term “Banig” (native mat) which best describe the town’s means of living.
All contingents, municipal and barangay officials joined the grand parade assembled in front of the District Hospital at 1 p.m. which marked the beginning of the celebration, arrived at the venue proper at 2:30 p.m.
“This festival has been a momentous event in our lives as Badianganons, for our family would find ways to be gathered in enjoying this day,” Municipal Mayor Hon. Robburt Librando quipped during his welcome message.
Rocelle Mae Batongmalaki of Pundok Magsapay won the Banig Festival Queen 2011 title. Shaira Jean Codilla of Pundok Kabataang Badianganons , Charisse Mainit of Pundok Maglalala , Jonaissa Ferolino of Pundok Makugihon and Jerrahmae Joy Emperio of pundok Tapatapoba settled at 1st,2nd,3rd,4th runners up,respectively.
Cebu Province Gov. Gwen Garcia delivered her message saying ‘I am thankful that to all Badian people for having their own festival , showing their prestigious pride. Our Government will continue to support for the development of our community.”
Pundok Kabataang Badianganons (cluster brgys of Bugas , Manduyong ,Zaragosa,Candiis, and Santicon) grabbed the peak being the grand champion . Pundok Magsapay (cluster brgys of Matutinao, Malabago, Calangcang, Sanlagan, and Balhaan) garnered the 1st runner up slot and some major awards: Best in Andas (shoulder-borne altar),in decorated Audeo Van and in Street dancing.
All contingents danced “One Cebu” for the grand finale. Fireworks display showed off in BNHS atmosphere at 6 p.m. which ends the said festivity.
